Our goal for this campaign is to raise funds to allow additional undergraduate students to participate in mentored research, capstones, or other immersive hands-on experiences under the careful guidance of faculty mentors. Experiences like these are vital to landing the most competitive jobs and getting admitted into the best graduate programs.
One of our undergraduates recently reported: “My mentored experience has taught me more than any class I have taken at BYU. I have learned so many valuable things and really grown as a scientist, not just a student.” We want to give as many students as possible this opportunity, so we are asking for our alumni’s help. 100% of funds will directly help students. Students work on projects in their department on various topics, everything from developing new cancer treatments, measuring rocket acoustics, or creating new artificial intelligence models.
Mentored research is crucial in the College of Physical and Mathematical Sciences because that is how scientists can gain experience. Chemistry students can’t safely conduct experiments in their kitchens and data science students don’t have supercomputers back in their dorm rooms. Most importantly, each student is carefully mentored by a faculty member as they work to solve problems that have never been done before. Thank you for supporting our students.
